July 8, 2024 – The Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa (CASO) has been in negotiations with the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) from November 9, 2023, to July 2, 2024, to renew the collective agreement. Despite reaching consensus on several items, the parties were unable to finalize a new agreement. As a result, the unionized workforce initiated a strike, which began on Monday, July 8.
CASO recognizes that budget constraints and resource limitations have strained employees. The dedication and hard work of staff over the past years has been exceptional. Throughout this disruption, CASO will maintain open lines of communication with OPSEU. Continued dialogue is essential to reaching a resolution that benefits both dedicated employees and the broader community served by CASO.
During the strike period, only essential services will remain operational. Service recipients, as well as members of the public who wish to report concerns can call 613-747-7800, where their calls will be appropriately triaged. CASO will also provide ongoing updates through its website.
Ensuring the continuation of essential services remains the primary goal. CASO remains steadfast in its commitment to serving Ottawa’s vulnerable children, youth and families.
