Eid al-Adha and Hajj

Assalaam U Alaikum (Peace be upon you)

This year, The Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa has once again partnered with the Ottawa Muslim Community Service (OMCS) to help support Muslim families in our community celebrate Eid al-Adha and Hajj.

OMCS is a charitable organization that offers mobile social services in the Ottawa region. Over the years, we have collaborated with the OMCS on several different projects including keeping youth in care connected to their community, faith and culture. These next few days are some of the most important days to Muslims around the world. It is the month of Dhul Hajj where millions of Muslims would normally travel to Mecca, Saudia Arabia to complete one of the 5 pillars of Islam – Hajj (the Pilgrimage). And those who are not performing the Pilgrimage celebrate Eid al-Adha (Celebration of Sacrifice).

But what is Hajj and this Pilgrimage? What is Eid Al Adha? In collaboration with young members of the Muslim community as well as one of Ottawa’s Muslim community’s religious leaders, Imam Samy, OMCS and CASO have put together some videos to help support families and Muslim youth in care better understand this Muslim holiday. The videos have been broken down into 4 days:

Day 1 of Hajj | Le premier jour du Hajj : https://youtu.be/ovEaqpVGN5I

Day 2 of Hajj | Le deuxième jour du Hajj : https://youtu.be/Xv8KTpZzPEY

Day 3 of Hajj | Le troisième jour du Hajj : https://youtu.be/2dHLyAMFhok

Eid al-Adha (Kids) English : https://youtu.be/i7Cemll1jtc

L’Aïd al-Adha et le Hajj : https://youtu.be/1qDrW659yGg

We hope that they are helpful in creating some space for learning, understanding, connecting and celebrating.

In addition to the videos, we have attached links to resources (stories, songs, craft ideas) and an activity book for younger kids. We hope these resources help make this time of year a little bit more special for families and Muslim youth!

Eid Mubarak! Happy Eid!
