The Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa Executive Director announces retirement

OTTAWA - Barbara MacKinnon, who has served as Executive Director for The Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa (CASO) since April 2003, has announced her retirement effective August 31st, 2018.

Ms. MacKinnon has worked in the social and health fields for the last 40 years after earning her Masters of Social Work degree at the University of Ottawa. Throughout her career, Barbara has held numerous leadership positions, a reflection of her passion and determination to strengthening and improving our community.

During her tenure at CASO, Barbara was involved as Chair of the Provincial Executive Leadership Group, an initiative to increase integration and create parallels between Children Aid Societies across the province. She has also chaired a Provincial Project Committee to define the Child Welfare Service Framework for Ontario. Barbara’s contributions to improving community outcomes do not stop there; she Chairs the Growing Up Great Initiatives, is a Board member for Crime Prevention Ottawa and was previously a long-standing volunteer on several United Way committees. Barbara’s professional and volunteer contributions have earned her several honourable community awards: Immigrant Woman Services Ottawa Community Leader Award, United Way Ambassador Award, and the Women of Distinction Award for non-profit management, to name a few.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank Barbara for her relentless commitment and ongoing dedication to improving outcomes for children, youth and families in Ottawa. The Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa has benefitted from Barbara’s expertise and guidance. CASO staff, Board and many partners feel privileged to have worked with Barbara and we are enormously grateful for her many contributions,” says Tracy Wrong, Board Chair

A Board of Directors committee will oversee the process to choose Barbara’s successor and will be hiring an Executive Search Firm to assist with the transition. At this time, the committee will be meeting with internal and external stakeholders to help inform on the needs of the organization.
