Position Description

PRESCHOOL SERVICES

 Teacher – HEADSTART Program        

(1) Temporary Full-Time Opportunity – 12 Months -English Position

                       

The Position:           

To provide a warm, nurturing, learning environment, maintain standards set by The Child Care and Early Years Act and to meet licensing requirements. Following the early learning documents including ELECT and How Does Leaning Happen? Apply a developmentally appropriate curriculum implementing daily learning experiences for children. Ensure cultural sensitivity and awareness of developmental challenges. Observe and document children’s progress using the Nipissing Developmental screen tool and the Brigance IED 11 child inventory.

 

Mandatory closures include 2 weeks at Christmas, 1 week at March Break and the last week of August, with any remaining vacation to be scheduled based on operational needs.

 

Qualifications:          

  • Must be certified in CPR and First Aid
  • Early Childhood Education Diploma or approved equivalency;
  • Membership in the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE) is required;
  • Two years experience in a licensed child care program, preferably with toddler and/or preschoolers
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, bend, twist, crouch and kneel;
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development, CCEYA and CAS Society’s policies and procedures;
  • Knowledge of the Nipissing Developmental screening tool, Brigance IED 11 child inventory, and both the ELECT curriculum framework and How Does Learning Happen? document
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities to work effectively with diverse communities and Aboriginal Peoples and exceptional abilities and behaviors
  • A strong oral and written skill in English is required.

 

Salary:            Commensurate with training and/or experience

                        CP07   $50,170 to $64,151
