Finance Clerk – ACCOUNTING & FINANCE SERVICES

Permanent Full Time Opportunity, Unionized - 35 hours/week 

Location: HeadOffice (Address: 1602 Telesat Court, Gloucester, Ontario, K1B 1B1)

POSITION AVAILABLE: Immediately

The Children’s Aid Society (CAS) of Ottawa is committed to protecting the children and youth of our community from abuse and neglect. We work in collaboration with community partners to ensure their well-being and to strengthen the capacity of families and the communities in which they live.

We are presently seeking an experienced and efficient Finance Clerk to join our Accounting and Finance team.

Responsibilities:              

The Finance Clerk, reporting to the Manager of Finance and Accounting, is required to acquire and maintain appropriate knowledge of Society operations necessary to record and maintain timely and accurate information in both CPIN and Oracle Accounting system. In this capacity the responsibilities include:

  • Processing identity document applications (e.g. birth certificates, social insurance numbers), name changes, transfers, letters to guardians and adoptive parents, and the placement of classified advertisements to ensure efficient and effective administration of these accounts;

  • Communicating regularly with Canada Revenue Agency, Service Ontario, medical offices, care providers, and others, and by completing all necessary applications to ensure each child in care has appropriate benefits coverage (i.e. health insurance, special allowances, pensions, etc.);

  • Maintaining the Society’s Accounts Receivable records, including ensuring timely collections;

  • Assisting with Accounts Payable processing;

  • Performing the accounting reconciliations necessary to ensure accurate accounting records; and

  • Assisting with filing and with any other administrative or accounting tasks as required.

     

HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Requirements:

  • Community College Diploma in accounting, finance or in a related field;

  • Minimum two years’ of related experience in computerized accounting or data entry environment with progressive responsibility;

  • Experience working with Accounting software (Oracle); and

  • Superior oral and written communication skills in English. 

COMPETENCIES & SKILLS:

  • Sound knowledge and demonstrated skills with Excel, Word and other computer applications;

  • Good judgment, strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills;

  • Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines;

  • Excellent capacity to work independently as well within a team setting;

  • Customer oriented and ability to engage stakeholders in collaborative strength-based relationships; and

  • Bilingualism (English & French) would be considered an asset

We offer a competitive salary range of $45,667- $56,007, commensurate with skills and experience, plus an additional 6% in lieu of insurable benefits, as well as generous leave provisions (such as 2 weeks of vacation after 6 months of service).
